Charity Golf Day 2009
On 1st October The Street Children of Nepal Trust hosted its 5th charity golf day with co-hosts New Futures Nepal at the Kendleshire Golf Club near Bristol - and what a day it was with wall to wall sunshine from morning until dusk! A total of 60 golfers from as far away as Zimbabwe, Trinidad and Sweden enjoyed a great day with the course in superb condition. Paul Barrington, a PGA professional and former holder of the ‘world's longest drive' title, started the day off with a fantastic demonstration of what can (and also what should not) be done with a golf club and ball, such as hitting a 200 yard drive....with a putter and a 300 yard drive....on his knees! Do not try this at home! The 18 hole competition then took place, followed by dinner, prize giving and the charity auction with a further 20 non-playing guests joining us to make this a very enjoyable evening and a great end to the day.
These events cannot take place without the help of willing volunteers and so a special mention is made for David Hawkes and Steve Morge for acting as competition organisers and scorers (no one argues with Steve!). This year was made possible through the business contacts of Paul Crook, a trustee of New Futures Nepal, who put a huge amount of time and effort into raising teams and taking care of the accounts. Andrew Small, a fellow trustee of Paul's, provided sterling service on the day by single handedly running the putting competition and Pat Murphy and his team at the Kendleshire made sure the day was a complete success (again).
We are looking forward to hosting a similar event, together with New Futures Nepal, in the spring of 2011. Full details to follow soon.
